“Passion for Mission and Service.”
Name, Nature & Purpose of CIT
The Consolata Institute of Theology (CIT) is affiliated to the Faculty of Theology of the Pontifical Urbaniana University (PUU), under which and through which it offers the degree of the first cycle of Theology — the Baccalaureate in Sacred Theology (STB). Juridical Nature
The juridical nature of CIT results from its affiliation to the Faculty of Theology of the PUU for the award of the Baccalaureate in Sacred Theology (STB). As an affiliate Institute, CIT is entirely governed by the specific norms of the PUU.

Historical Background
The Consolata Missionaries, after many years since they started the Consolata Institute of Philosophy (CIP) in 1974, and after several years of needs assessment and discernment, officially started the Consolata Institute of Theology (CIT) on the 19th of August 2024 — in the context of the Golden Jubilee of the Consolata Institute of Philosophy.
The decision was prompted by the continuous request from the superiors and formators of the many Religious Congregations that have brought their students to the CIP since its inception 50 years ago. The request to start CIT had been present for the last 10 years and gained strong momentum in the last 5. For these superiors and formators, CIT makes it possible to have in the same premises a complete cycle of Philosophical and Theological formation for priestly ministry and other Church ministries.
First Students & Inaugural Class
CIT opened its doors to its first group of 14 students on the 19th of August 2024. The students came from five different countries and four religious congregations: Consolata Missionaries (IMC), Divine Word Missionaries (SVD), Consolata Missionary Sisters (MC), and Franciscan Servants of Mary Queen of Love (FSMQL).
Affiliation Process with Pontifical Urbaniana University
On the 5th of March 2025, the Director of CIP wrote a formal letter to the Dean of the Faculty of Theology of the Pontifical Urbaniana University (PUU), Rev. Prof. Pietro Angelo Muroni, requesting affiliation of CIT. After consulting with Rector Prof. Vincenzo Buonomo, the Dean responded on the 6th of March 2025 indicating consent to begin the process. The required documentation was prepared and submitted to the Secretariat of Affiliated Institutes of the PUU on the 16th of April 2025.
As we await the PUU’s response, we believe the affiliation will not only enhance CIT’s academic rigour but will allow our students and faculty to benefit from the rich resources and spiritual guidance of the Faculty of Theology of the PUU, encouraging enrolment from Religious and Missionary Congregations across Kenya and beyond.
